Libraries, particularly reference
libraries have their own unique requirements. The
protection of rare books against environmental damage
whilst providing access by authorised persons offers
interesting challenges. Lending libraries generally have
multiple copies of material available for
borrowers. Apart from the obvious problem of material
return, the facility and users are exposed to
additional threats.
Identification of threats to the
facility and users.
Controlling access to restricted rare book areas whilst
providing a controlled environment for viewing.
Detecting attempted illegal removal of reference
material.
Preventing damage to reference material.
Review existing security system and design appropriate
countermeasures as required.
Implement and audit agreed security measures.
